The Night-Lighters Book Review

Recently we were invited to review a new book, The Night-Lighters and as we love a bedtime story we jumped at the chance.

The Night-Lighters has been written and created by L.A Andrews and V.K James and we loved it!!

Sam and I snuggled up on his bed and I started to read. Sam is at the point of starting to recognise words within books and often stops me to tell me the next word and he loved the fact that the moon and star were obviously sleeping as he could see "zzz" next to them.

 The idea of the book is to meet The Night-Lighters, who are magical people who live in Yew Tree Woods. At night they head off to work in search of children who are having bad dreams. They work hard to add a magical ball of light into the child's own night light which in turn offers comfort and allowing them to sleep soundly until the morning.

The characters in this book are fab. Sam and I both loved the fact that the pictures were photographs of real characters rather than drawn pictures and if you look closely you will find a mouse hiding on most of the pages.

Train of Lights Review

Review of the Train of Lights

On Saturday evening, Ali and I made Sam's day by taking him and Oliver on the Train of Lights which was run by Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company.

Ever since Sam spotted the advert, which features an ariel video of the train with all its lights, he has been desperate to go and he had no idea that I actually booked it.

Now who wouldn't want to go on that?

We didn't tell Sam where we were going until we turned up at the station. His face was brilliant when the penny dropped. It was totally worth it and we hadn't even stepped on the train yet!!

So, we collected our tickets and headed out onto the platform. The platform was incredibly busy. There didn't seem to be any reason where people were stood. We headed down the platform and stood next to the rope and watched as the train filled up with water. The boys level of excitement was high.

A countdown was started and the lights were switched on. Again the boys faces were brilliant.

A member of staff then opened the train doors and there was a rush for the door. I picked up Oliver as I was worried he may be stepped on.

Ali and Sam were ahead and managed to get onboard and save us some decent chairs.

Once onboard, we immediately relaxed. The boys were looking out of the window and then looking around the carriage at all the baubles and more lights. It definitely was christmasy!!

The conductor explained all the lights would have to be switched off until after Goodrington Station as they were too close to the main line

We set off and true to their word, the lights came on and the magic started.

As well as the train being covered in lights. There were changing lights mounted under the carriage which projected lights outside.

There were lots of things to look for on both sides of the train including  gnomes, reindeer and polar bears. There is even a snow machine to look out for.

Once you have headed into Kingswear, the train is pulled into the station by a diesel giving you time to swap sides of the carriage and ready for the journey home.

The highlight for me excluding seeing my boys faces was going through the tunnel. The lights lit up the tunnel and gave an experience I had never seen before.

Overall the train ride was great and it would have been amazing if the rush for train at the start hadn't been so frightening being pushed around.

I desperately tried to take photos but my phone didn't do it justice so thankfully Ali was on hand to take some decent ones.
